The VLC media player is a great program for playing your dvd's , no matter what part of the world your DVD originated from. The really great thing is that it appears to have all the codec's installed. So pretty much, if you use something like microsoft media player it maybe locked to your region and you will have to download the codecs bfore you can play the DVD. I did have one issue when trying to run VLC on a windows 7 netbook when it crashed or played without sound, but just set the compatibility mode to windows XP and all the problems were solved. So pretty much this is whats recommended for playing DVD's
